A first for me, an apothecary weight and from what I read it’s pretty old, late 1700’s. It’s identical on both sides.

The old plat described this as “old settlement” but it was small, I think too small for a “drug store”. I’m wondering if this couldn’t have been a military encampment there. We found a variety of military buttons and other military relics.

They are always fun to find, they turn up everywhere!

Good catch !!
The 3-like sign is the symbol for dram. The ij symbol is a Roman 2, with the j replacing the final i, presumably to make sure the apothecary staff would understand where the figure ends. The whole therefore reads as 2 dram, indeed 120 grains or ¼ troy ounce (7.78 grams).
Don......

Very cool relic. I would love to find one of those! It's funny despite being old the script / symbol on there reminds me of graffiti / tagging.

That's a very cool dig right there. Glad you posted and thanks for sharing.

Nice find. I found an identical piece once on one of the best sites Ive ever detected.

Nice find, congrats! :occasion14:

I've certainly never found anything like that haha. Way to go on a sweet find!!
