Since I have only been detecting for 6 months a couple of these were firsts for me. (Walking Liberty and rosie). I went to a local baseball field yesterday morning to search in the outfield for some lost jewelry. The field is located next to an old school built in the 30’s but is not nearly that old, so I did not expect to really find any old coins. I found a wheatie from the 50’s but other than that just clad. I had moved between second and third and was just past the infield when I got a silver reading about 6-8 inches down. I started digging and man that dirt was like concrete! Digging was hard to say the least but the signal was still there. Due to the fact that I have never found silver when it said that’s what it was, I did not have any aspirations as to it actually being silver. When I saw the edge of the coin I couldn’t believe my eyes. Sure enough I pulled the Walking Liberty Half Dollar out of that hole with my hands shaking! Sadly I do not own a pin pointer so my shovel caught the edge. Rookie mistake. It is my first half dollar so I am really happy! (I am investing in a pin pointer).
The other two silvers and 4 wheaties came from a lot where the old home had burned down and a new one is being built. I had only found 3 silver coins before these last 3 in 2 days and I can attribute it to 1. Knowing my machine better, and 2. Location, location, location. I finally got the nerve up to ask permission to hunt the house lot and I’m glad I did. I have also spent a ton of time with my machine digging iffy targets and can finally understand better what it is telling me.
HH to all!
