2 coppers, one's a first

I spied this patch of dirt on a previous hunt on another bit of high ground, I knew I had to get there soon so yesterday I went.

I did not grid this place very well taking passes every 10 feet or so over the crest of the little hill.

The short of it is I got a first even though I didn't know it at the time, I gave the coppers a soak this morning, the one that I said Newfoundland turned out to be a Nova Scotia piece, I thought I saw something that wasn't there (need glasses)

The other copper is the first, my first US large cent, and it also happens to be my first identifiable 1700's coin for the year. A 1798.

Side note...my 2, and 3 cent pieces were both first year of issue, so I was hoping when I found my first LC it would also be a first year of issue. I guess that was a bit too much to ask for.

Even though it is in pretty poor condition, it's a first, and I am quite happy with the find, it was a fantastic day for being out. The temperatures have finally come back down to something comfortable.

Very short video.

Wow Rick, amazing finds! I would kill to break into the 1700's...

Breaking that 1800's barrier is always a great thrill. Congratulations.

anything from the 1700's is awesome in my book, who was the old dude on the bike in the video? lol just kidding
good stuff rick.

The "old dude" on the bike is just some obsessive compulsive diggin' fool.

Great hunt, Rick! I love that old LC!

It's been a beautiful summer, but it was unbearable with headphones on. Best of luck this fall.

Enjoy that one, 1700s American large cents are few and far between in our parts. Other than my 1795 you are the only local person I know who has dug one.

Awesome finds for sure.:icon_thumleft:

Once you get a taste of the old stuff, you never go back. :)

Congratulations on some great finds!

Best Wishes,

Buck

Big Congrats on the 1798 Draped Bust in the land up north!! Now some more NJ coppers could be lurking in your area. :)

Good going on that one Rick!
I'm still hoping to break into the 1700's with an American coin, my 1805 is as close as I've been able to come. I hope you catch a few more goodies out of your site! Good luck!
