I found this stove at a yard sale a short time back. My son and I decided to hook it up to a propane tank today and it worked great. Then we noticed it had a swastika stamped in both of the brass valve bodies. Anyone got any history on it? I paid $15 for it. :)

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure it's just a symbol of good luck. It's not the modern hate symbol. That symbol is tilted, your is straight. If I had to guess it was a symbol of good luck, so you wouldn't 1. burn the food or 2. Blow yourself up! lol. You can read more about it @ History of the Swastika .

Agree - most likely the brass fitting was made in India where it is a Hindu symbol

There was a thread recently on TN where someone had bought antique knobs for an old gas fireplace. Whoever bought them was told that they were knobs from a gas furnace in a Nazi concentration camp.

Seems to me that the swastika symbol was the maker's mark from an American company...long before Hitler came to power, and mass murdered millions of Jews and others.

Thanks all for the info. I also posted this in the "What is it" forum. Like I said, this one works when hooked up to the 5-gallon propane tank but now I'm wondering if the valves are still set up for natural gas. How would I tell? It's a neat, heavy ol' stove and we're planning on using it for cooking crabs when we go to the coast for next year's crabbing season. :)

hey packer...what color is the flame when hooked to propane?

people really need to get over this NAZI bs everytime a gas valve is found with a hooked cross on it.

NO, IT IS NOT FROM A CONCENTRATION CAMP...NO IT IS NOT A PANZER PART.

here is the Nazi mark for all materials for the Reich...all government approved materials had a variation of this stamp..this one is on cloth...

I know it's not...... I was laughing at my self in the post I made. I never suggested his was either since I know it's not. Only reason I assumed was bc it was from a militaria dealer (by the way I haven't spoken to or bought from since after selling that and a repro to me) . Once again I say cool piece to the poster and if you need a matching knob let me know hahaha.

I had heard that long ago even our boy scouts used a swastika-looking symbol.
The flame is yellow. No matter how we adjusted the airflow we couldn't get blue. It was also quite "silent"; in other words it wasn't like it was putting out a lot of flow.

yeah pippen, there is an adjustment for airflow but it barely changes the flame pressure or color. I wouldn't know where to get the proper jets for this particular stove. I was thinking about taking it to a propane distributor here in town. They may be able to assist.

local propane dealer is a good idea...ace hardware is also a good place...if it is an old school type store.

but if you can not adjust the flame...it is the jet...they are almost universal fittings...so should not be a problem to adapt...

good luck..great find.
