I was reading a magazine tonight that said they are making $2 bills currently. In 2004 it was something like 180 million of them and last year over 200 million. The article said many of them were used as tips and to give to strippers (!!), which could be why Ive not heard of them - I dont tip and I havent seen a stripper in a few years :(

They also said the Reserve would like us all to go the banks on the 2nd day of each month buy some and then circulate them. Sounds cool to me. Maybe I need to head to the nearest strip club.

I used to use them for both reasons in the 90's

sort of lost intrest in both.

Problem is they are like Dollar coins,
everyone either saves them,
or spends them at the store & the stores,
rather then distribute them to customers,
stick them under the tray &
turn them back in to the bank at the end of the day.

Short Circles.

That's why I try to use two dollar bills, dollar coins, and halves. To get rid of the ones I've searched, get them to circulate, and if nothing else, a few people will get excited over them. That being said, WHY????? Why do people save these things when they're the opposite of rare? ??? You'd think by now that the preceived rarity would be better understood. Etc....

Small Circles, indeed.

That's true, atleast for my store....for these Washington Dollars...the safe is full of them...they won't circulate them...they sell them back to the bank...and also halves and other dollar coins and Susan B. Anthonys. I am considering buying what they have in the safe ... just see what kind of SILVER could be lurking in there!!!

Whenever one of my cashiers' or myself get a $2 bill...I buy them and put them in my COLLECTION...yes, I hoard them...sorry!!! Infact, I bought 3 that came in one day and they are in numerical order....so cool!

I have 3 kids that I save certain coins and such for (maybe someday I will be able to leave them a fairly good coin collection ... one can only hope!)

I always pull wheaties from the tills too....I love wheaties...I don't know why, I have always loved the wheatie!!!! Been pulling Canadian Coins lately too...

Anyways...I'm a hoarder!!!!
Happy Hunting Ya'll,
Annmarie

Anyways...I'm a hoarder!!!!
Actually, that really clears things up. Since I'm not a hoarder (I like weird, randrom crap, so I'm kind of like a hoarder), I forget that some people just like to accumulate things.

Regardless, as long as people get to hunt and collect what they like, I'm a happy fiatboy!

You don't tip?

the 76's have a cool Reverse,

But unless you have Crisp Uncirculated
with Intresting Serial Numbers no.

two dollar bills --often known as "the gamblers freind" -- most pony or dog track bets are $2 min bets -- twos are popular with betters -- long as you got one you have a bet on hand

Some of the '76's carry a premium, but I never learned which ones. Maybe a different series or something? Anyone know?

While in the AF in early '53,every few months they would pay us in $2 bills.Got my whole month's pay of $79 in 2's.In those days, they only paid in cash.We certainly circulated them!

I have 2 from 1928 and 2 from 1953, both have the Monticello house on the reverse side, and the ones from 1928 are printed in black and red on the from side. Any idea what these might be worth

Yea I went to the bank and bought all of the $2 bills they had it was 180some odd dollars worth and I kept them b/c i new I wouldnt spend them until a rainy day, well that rainy day finally came around I i went to the movies me and the wife and and bought the tickets on nothing but $2 bills and dollar coins, and the lady at the window thought that she had hit the jackpot, its always the expression i get when I hand someone an old bill or a dollar coin that makes me feel like not enough people know about these currency's. I dont think no matter how hard they want us to go to bank and circulate these bills it will never happen b/c to few people know about them.

Easily found $324 worth inf $2 bills in banks around town, and passed up the "thousands" that they still had. Hardly rare at all.
