Decided to change tack today & start on a small Wheat Stubble field which has recently been sprayed off for weeds & grass. We covered about half of the 2 acres in 3.5 hours in the rain & hail. Its always been a low priority field but one we want to cross off the list, as its close to a Roman road & seems to have Iron Age Cropmarks visible.
I'm happy with the result as 2.5 hours into the hunt I got my 11th hammered this month which makes it the highest April we have ever had.8-)

Nor have we, it has 1 fixing hole that I think pinned it to a wooden box? (Victorian I think)

UPDATE:
I forgot the most important part of the day. The few hours in the morning that Land-mag & I searched down a new lead. Land-mag is one of the best researchers I know, & as usual he was spot-on. We found by field walking several scattered Roman pot Shards in the middle of no-where. Those that think you can find Roman Sites by luck, then good luck to you. We have a winning formula (not sharing on here), that means we get 'fresh sites' every year but very few happen by chance. I thank Land-mag for another job well done. See the results after harvest when the Wheat is out of the way:thumbsup:

Nice Sixpence :laughing7: is there any water near to were you found the shards :dontknow: might determin wether it's a villa site, or some outher type of site.

At this point we don't know the water source, it's something we mentioned to the neighbour in the nearby garden. The water table is very high, & would not take very much digging to get it.
Shards included 1 piece of Samian, Nene Valley Tableware, Greyware & other cooking types. The pieces were very small, but when the crop is out of the way, the real fun begins.

Is it on high ground.
