Owner flips Wagner card for $2.8 million
MISSION VIEJO, Calif., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- The famed 1909 Honus Wagner baseball card broke another record recently when it was sold by a California collector for a whopping $2.8 million.
The seller was apparently the same unidentified collector who bought the coveted item in February for what was then a record $2.35 million.
SCP Auctions in Mission Viejo said in a news release that the so-called T206 Honus Wagner is considered the "holy grail" or "Mona Lisa" of baseball cards and was once owned by hockey great Wayne Gretzky.
The auction house identified the purchaser only as an anonymous buyer.
