decided to take my kids metal detecting today i found the target with my detector and it was out of the hole in a cunck of dirt " i hadnt even seen it yet", so i yelled for my kids that were on the other side of the house metal detecting, because i wanted us all to fing whatever it was... we were all looking and lookind and then savannah mcgavic said "'here it is" and picked this coin..." i just thought it was a regular quater, it was in her hand and i seen it was SILVER and it had an eagle on the back. i grabbed it out of her hand and cleaned it off and it was a standing liberty quater... 1st one i was so excited the kids were going crazy want to keep it, i told them i wouldf keep it for them... ill get a pic on later when the camera battery charges

pretty worn, maybe dropped in the 40's or 50's, as opposed to the 20's...awesome find! I want to find one sooooooooo bad!

like most dug standing libs, it looks like the date is worn off but either way it's an awesome find. I just can't get enough of them

Congrats man, Awesome find. Your first S.L., and with your kids there. You will never forget it, and I doubt you kids will either! :occasion14:

Congrats on your 1st SLQ.

huge congratulations on a great first. I've had many great firsts in my metal detecting hobby. But My first (and only) Standing Liberty is one of the most memorable. Date or no date, it is a very great find.

Looks like a type 1 which was minted in 1916-17. If there are stars beneath the eagle on the obverse then it was minted after 1917 or later.

That's my favorite coin the mint ever made

Congrats on the SLQ, hope you find many more

Congrats on the standing!

Great story & find congrats on making memories with the family nothing like it in the world. Congrats

Cool find, good for you!

Congrats on your first SLQ! I never get tired of finding these, regardless of condition. Pointman was right about it being a 1916 or 1917 only he meant stars below the eagle on the reverse, not obverse.

gz on gr8 coin!
