The weather in the North-East has taken a noticeable turn for the better, with warmer temps and melting snow. I was able to get out into the woods for a couple of hours on Saturday, and found my first large cent for the New Year. Its an 1853 US LC. The obverse is pretty crunchy, but the reverse has some very nice detail.

Aside from the normal junk, I also came across a pile of old MBTA tokens. I'm guessing that someone dumped them after they became worthless. After digging out 14, I gave up. I'm guessing there are probably another 20 + left to dig up at some point. If they had any value. I think I would be more excited...but still a fun ( weird) thing to find out in the woods.

I hope this lovely weather holds up! Happy Hunting everyone!

Im still looking for my first LC. The woods are always a good hunting spot plus a good go to spot in the winter when you want to do some detecting and usually no one else in sight. Glad you were able to get out hope that snow melts some more for you. /?Great post keep em coming Tommy

So your telling me that those old MBTA tokens are worthless?
Dammitman.... I got a pile of them for the next time I go home and need to ride the T.:BangHead:

Very nice old copper, congrats! :icon_thumleft:

I have yet to find a LC with any remaining detail in my area. You did very well with that one... Congrats!

Thanks All for the nice comments. For our friends on the West coast, an "MBTA token" is a Massachusttes Bay Transportation Authority" token that allows the rider to use the subways, buses, and trolleys around th greater Boston area. These went out of fashion on July 21st, 2012. Tokens got their debut in 1919. So they were in use for almost a century. Long live the token!

Congrats on that Largie! It's funny I've only found 2 mbta tokens in 4 years of detecting Boston. Not as common as you'd think!!! Or the city has been hunted hard over the years. Also very possible.
