Over 10 years we have really given our 1st Fav Field a hammering. However, this year he did a 1 in 3 year deep plough so we thought it worthy of our efforts (still pretty rough conditions).
Spent 4 hours clearing about 2 pouches each of iron nails etc but ended the session with a good result:

Roman Pot shards - includes a partly showing potters mark on a 1st-2nd C AD Samian bowl base :icon_thumright:
8 Roman Bronze Coins
1 good early Military Button
Hammered Halfpenny :)
Roman Silver Denarius - Elagabalus AD218-222 (one we don't see many of, maybe only 1 other) ;D
Obv: IMP ANTONINVS PIVS AVG
Rev: LIBERTAS AVG - Libertas is holding Pileus and Rod with star in left field

A picture showing how small the 4th century coins became, shows the detectors doing its thing (even with 11" coil)!
I think my first Gun Flint? (any experts?) - Funny only the other week I was discussing with Robfinds how I hadn't had one  I think it is, & I'm very pleased with it :hello:

I think this was 8mm some are only 6mm :laughing7: They used to carry them in small purses/bags & just weigh them for payment, no need for counting, plus if you dropped 1 you really wouldn't bother bending over even if you could find it.

It really gives me a confidence boost to find them, shows why I like my machine

PS, the gun flint made my hunt 8)

tiny coin interesting .... :o

Is that an octagonal trade token lurking in your buttons ?.

I wish, never had any other shapes other than round. Its a 18th C cufflink piece

Nice going on the Roman silver Cru, good eye for getting the flint. :icon_thumright:

its our 9th Roman silver this year, we targetted 20 :-\ So we need to get a move on :laughing9:

nice gun flint crusader, I have several from a french pirate wreck I dove down in the virgin islands. I also shoot several flintlocks, they are literally a blast to shoot. I see you've been busy, and thanks for sharing with us.

Love the gun-flint and the hammered silver :o
Can you please tell me what this is? :icon_scratch:

Thanks,
Dave

Not that I'd know what a "pastry jigger" is . . . I thought it might have something to do with spinning wool on a wheel? :icon_scratch:
