At last the winter barley has been harvested, and between the rain showers l managed to get just over 2 hours detecting on the stubble. Hard going but :: 5 Romans and a cut quarter silver penny of Henry 11. plus a very nice Medieval Seal were found so l was happy.
Any help in IDing the seal would be nice too!! Hutch.

Wow I assume it is a chess piece maybe more go back asap!

PS: If you go to the link, on the right side you can search by county. Maybe you know of this site, hope this helps anyway.

Thanks Jarl for the link:: l have tried it but there are about two and a half thousand to compare, l will get back to it later!
Hutch.

Hi, These medieval seals have nothing to do with chess, but l agree they can look like a chess piece. They were for signing letters or documents with sealing wax, Hutch.

Funny enough these types of Circa 14th C Seals are called 'Chess Piece' Types, due to there look.

Can't see the letters well enough but if you spell them out, I can look them up in a book I have?

You got 1 of these about a week after I had one, same type as well:laughing7: I also had a cut Qrter Shortcross this weekend.

You had a great start to the season, we are still awaiting the Wheat Harvest, but that stubble I would swap for Barley any day.

Thanks CRU l have done another impression and l can see the letters better
as :: IESVS ETD IVEM. there are 3 little dots on the top surface to give you the orientation for 12 o'clock
the design seems to be a vase of blooms: within a tri corn shape. Hutch.

(maybe a variant of this??) IESVS EST AMOR MEVS – Jesus is my love

Thanks:: looks as if it is very similar . l am very pleased with it!

Dad thinks it might be IESVS ET DIVEM - which also doesn't translate well but might mean Jesus my Lord.

Nice finds, like the seal!
