1st attempt at 1800's house - Morrisville Battlefield area

I received permission today to MD this old 1800's house and land, which is right where the Morrisville Battlefield was. (April 13th & 14th, 1865)
Here is a link on that battles history:
http://www.mindspring.com/~nixnox/history2.html
This house has been in the same family since it was built. It served as a stagecoach stop also.
If you look at the picture of the chimney, you can see where the old bullet holes where re-patched with mortar. The family said that the property HAS been MD'd over the years, but I was still able to come up with a few finds on my short 2 hour hunt. I just stayed mainly in the front yard today. I did find a LOT of signals in the backyard where the old kitchen used to sit by the well. I dug up the broken bell there.
Anyways, there is a LOT of acres to cover, so this will be my new w/end spot for awhile.
My finds today were:

*1898 IH (along the front walkway)

*A "Treble Gilt" button

*An 18mm musketball (?) right by the chimney.
This is a musketball, right?

*Brass bell (in backyard area)

*A small corroded copper looking piece. It looks like a coin, but I'm not sure?
It is thin like a dime, and the size of a dime. Is there such a coin?
It will need electrolysis bad.

*A possible thimble (?) and other asst'd unknown relics.

I am invited back to MD, and am very excited about this new hunting spot. There was to be some old silver out there somewhere. ;D
Thanks for looking,
MM

I hunted that same house about 12 yrs ago. I lived in N Raleigh and worked for Cary FD back then. The RR tracks run behind the house right? I found some CW bullets in the back, closer to where the ravine and tracks are. I don't recall what else I found, but I did not find as much as I thought I would. Good luck, Bryan

Thanks Kirk.
If I don't find silver soon, I may have to buy a White's. ;D
Ridley and I don't MD together anymore. We had some great hunts together but both went our own ways.
Would you recommend a White's MXT as a good machine that's easy to learn?

Well, you missed an Injun, bullet, and other CW relics. :P ;) :D ;D There is more there, Doug!

Bryan,
You are correct. That is the house. So YOU are the one that took all the silver coins. ;D
The place is huge, so I'm hoping you left me some good stuff. ;) If not, my wife's cousin owns the house & lot across from it.

Hell yeah, bud! The MXT is a simple machine to learn, plus you will find the super deep coins. Ask PACO, he will tell you what he thinks about the MXT.

I know about the Ridley thing. I haven't seen him on this forum in a month or two. He must be bitter.

The left item in Picture 5s looks like a sword/dagger chape (went on the end of the leather sheaf to stop the point sticking out). Not 100% sure.

I also use a White's MXT and I love it. It's turn on and go, has 3 distinct modes and is deep. No programming or any fancy electronics that you can screw up by programming it incorrectly.

Hi MM

Nice "stuff"The thin copper piece looks like a burned coin(penny) If the fire is hot enough it can shrink the coin.

I've been looking at the copper coin shaped thing for a while now. If you squint your eyes and look very closely you will see that it is an 1877 indian head penny ;D ;D Ok maybe not but you can always dream. Nice finds.

I am sure there is alot more there. I do not recall finding any silver. The place is huge, I just checked several different areas. I had alot going on in my life during the time I hunted it, I think I only hunted it once. Good luck to you and I hope you clean it up! Bryan

AZ,
That sounds like just the machine for me. I think if I sell off an ounce of gold nuggets at today's gold prices it should just about cover it. ;D
Thanks,

Thanks Crusader.
I had / have no idea what that piece is? Very interesting though.

Ev,
You know what? You're right! If I squint REAL hard after a few beers, I can plainly see the 1877 on this IH. ;D ;D ;D
Very funny.

Re: 1st attempt at 1800's house - Morrisville Battlefield area

Great finds and looks like a great spot for hunting, I'll attach a pic of a 58cal miniball to show you what they look like. I molded it back in april after finding a lead ingot in a field.
