its the largest horn coral ive come across yet!its 15 and 3/4 inches long.
found it at the local lake while detecting an old home site.i saw it walked back to my car,put away the ace250 and got my rock hammer.it took my an hour to get it off the vw bettle sized boulder.
is there a way to safely remove the matrix? or at least most of it.
the rock weights in at 37lb and just wont fit on my mantle that way(i tryed and got the LOOK from the wife.lol)

Hey, Wingman—

Great find! That's a monster, all right... much larger than any I ever saw in my years of fossil hunting in Arkansas.

However, in checking around the net, it I found the following astounding info:

" The largest horn coral is called Siphonophretis elongata....It is generally thought to lie prostrate on the sea floor, curving upward to catch plankton with its stinging tentacles. To reach lengths of up to five feet (1.6 meters), meant it had a long life span."
