You are right about the coin having suffered a Partial Collar Strike! I don't think that it was Double Struck and the mess on the Reverse is likely due to some Die Clashing, possible Counter-Die Clashing, Die Fatigue and what appears to be some breaks developing in the Die.

Yay! I got one right! :headbang:
I wondered about die clashing as well! This is so cool!

Also, the reeding is different on half the coin which made me wonder about two coins struck together....because theres a clear line separating the obverse from the reverse. One half the reeding is wider spaced with thicker sections. And the other half has more narrow sections. It's weird.

I took pictures of the reeded edge with a 1985 dime to do a comparison of the thickness, and the 88 is barely thicker (or wider when loooked from the side)

In haritage auctions archives, Anacs graded ms60 partial collar dimes went for about $19! I'm not going to slab this one, but I will try feebay and see how i do.
Thank you Frank for your help!

Oh on a side note:
the 85 I used to compare thickness with this 88....also is a partial collar, obv die clash, reverse die chip, and some doubling (probably just MD)...
I think! But it's been through the ringer so it's hard for my newbie eyes to tell for sure.
I'll start a new thread and see what you all think!
