I went to visit my grandfather and I notice his coin collection.......I was interested in coins at that moment. He told me to start off with pennies, so I looked up everything to know, including errors, AM's, rare dates.......I never thought that pennies could be so interesting. I notice this 1983 penny that seems to double at some spots. Can anybody tell me if this penny is real?.

Re: 1983 Double Die (Need help identifying)

Nice find! yes it is a doubled die. Appears to be FS# 1c-035. As I already said it's "doubled" not double.

Thank you everyone for the information, I also have a 1972 Doubled that I will post later!

Welcome to Tnet!! Obverse of the 1991 looks nice. Good shine!! I’d put a couple more coats of clear epoxy on the reverse to even it out though... just kidding of course. I’m not entirely sure why people do many of the things that they do, although I do know why they super glue quarters and half dollars to the pavement.

Kindest regards,
Kantuck

The 1983 d has a plating blister on the mintmark, the 1991 somebody coated it with something. I have seen coins polyurethened over on a wooden floor, but no way to say who did it or why.
