1976 S non proof silver?

If it is silver it must be a proof, the non proof 1976 s is a Nickle and copper coin. The 40% silver proofs were sold in 3-piece Bicentennial sets along with the Silver Clad Washington Quarters and Silver-Clad Eisenhower Dollars. Here is my 1976 s Bicentennial dollar

I just did some checking online and there were silver kennedy halves (40%) that were non-proofs in 1976. See the below link for more info.

You might be right. But if you are right, then coinfacts.com is wrong. If you go to the section in the link that talks about 1976 coins, it clearly says that 5,000,000 1976-s were made for circulation, and 4,000,000 1976-s were made as proofs. Both were 40% silver. The one I found today is a circulation in that it clearly does not have a proof finish. I have found 1976 proofs that look like they have been through hell and they still have that finish. The one I found today looks new, but does not have a proof finish.

I found a brand new looking 1976-S bicentennial half with a silver rim but it is not a proof. Anyone know what it is? I thought that only the proofs were made with silver, but this rim is bright silver and the coin has the "ring" of silver sound to it.

Yeah Jim , you found a 1976 S 40% that is not a proof but came from a mint set ... I found one awhile ago it silver and doesnt have a proof finish... according to the Red Book they minted approx. 11 million and 4 million that were proofs ...it states that this figures are approx. because many were melted in 1982 ...
