I can't find anything yet on it. It is a beautiful case. Do those inserts come out? If so, it could be used for other things.

Is there a plate on it stating it is from Colt and made in 1976?

Looks like it should hold some decent value though. IMO

The inserts do come out, but only if I rip them out. I would prefer to keep it intact.

There is nothing to identify it as Colt or that it was made in 1976.
