1974 dt 175

Just picked up this 1974 dt 175 for $250, practically stole it. Anyways there is rust in the tank and I dumped some gas in the plug hole to see if it would fire and it did, I did it again and it stopped getting spark, would this be the points or something else?

Take the tank off . Some times you can put a sharp edged chain in it and shake the crap out of it., Then rinse the inside and let dry then put tank sealer in it ,.
