Looks like somebody's science experiment. Saw a post on here w/video recently showing how to make a "gold" penny. The first step in the process (chemical) removed the copper finish...

A 1973 cent doesn't have a "copper finish". I agree, though. Most likely someone experimenting with plating.

Apologies for the improper terminology. Apparently, this is a pretty popular experiment in chemistry (high school) these days.

- check it out. I don't recall doing anything like this in H.S. - we did use balloons as small hydrogen "bombs" though... ;D

Most likley dipped in mercury. If it had been a 74 you could have found one of them rare aluminum ones that walked out of capital hill.

Sorry folks I did not get back to you. Thanks tchaire.
I found out about the 74 in 75 when I came across on that might have been one. Of course I did not end up with it. It also could have been a fake.
