I went coin roll hunting today, and I came across a penny from 1972. No mint mark. However, The rim was very thick on the obverse side. On closer inspection with a magnifier, I discovered some lines that look like doubling. They are most visible near Liberty and the date.

Before I take it to my coin collecting friend, I want to know what you guys think.

There is a double die 1972 penny and they are kinda rare. The doubling is more prominent in the word LIBERTY on the face of the coin. Here is a good example.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1590183237.844510.jpg You’re going to need a better image. It’s just hard to tell in the photo you posted...

Give me a second, my magnifier is not that good. I'll work on getting a better photo.

I set it to black-and-white this time. You see the line in the middle of the rim? Well, that's what I think it is.

Like I said, my magnifier is not that good.

For what ever reason the doubling in the 1972 penny doesn’t always show up very well on the date. If it shows up at all it will be more noticeable in the word LIBERTY.

Thanks guys. I actually just got out of the coin shop. They said it's not double. Oh well!
