All Treasure Hunting
I was given permission to hunt one of my best friends farm. In particular I wanted to hunt the area around a big spring on the property as there were lots of troop movement through the area during the Civil War. I also was informed that their current residence is built one the approximate site of an older home as well. During the brief hunt at the spring his wife and eldest son showed great interest in getting a detector even though the spring yielded no good finds. I went to the front yard of the home and instantly located several penny signals but suggested we wait until they get a detector and hunt it. I noticed very obvious doubt in the young man as to the signals being coins. I explained that almost every possible target fell into a numerical scale and that the T2 didn't assign a target ID like many detectors but rather the number displayed was the way to ID the target based on the VDI reading. I also stressed that a door knob may give the same reading as a quarter etc. One very distinct signal gave an 91 reading and informed him that it was a solid half dollar signal but was the least likely to be a coin simply because of the rarity of finding halves. I was looking for a dime of quarter signal to dig just as proof, when he asked me to dig the 91. As luck would have it, out popped the first half I have dug in a long time. Even though it was a clad 1972 he about had a stroke. Didn't think to snap a pic with my phone but may have him text me one to add to this tonight. Guess who REALLY wants a detector now.

I dug a 71 yesterday. A screaming 88

Nothings good without a good demonstration. What fun!

Well, the young man has a good mentor to teach him the ropes. Hope the 2 of you find some great things.

Neat! Thanks for sharing...

I dug a 1971 half almost two weeks ago, 12-47 12-48 , on the Etrac. I also dug a 64 half last month, and it was in trash and the signals were all over the place, anywhere from 2-47 to 10-46. They are cool to dig...
