1961 steel cent ?

I posted this earlier in the wrong spot. I found a 1961 silver in color 1 cent coin. It does stick to a magnet , so I figure its steel. But up till now had never heard of one this new. Niether did my friends. Probally worth no more than 1 cent , but I found in interesting. Its pretty closed to perfect, any ideas if its worth anything?

Most likely chromed. I have ran into a couple like that.

Actually a plated coin will be attracted to a magnet.

Probably not the real deal ,I have a buddy who showed me some Linc Cents that would stick to a magnet ,they were the regular copper color cant remember the dates . ? why they were steel Idont know ,one would have to be an idiot to counterfeit pennies.

They were probably copper plated 1943s.

The sticking to a magnet test, the coin should stick to the magnet and be lifted securely off of the table (not just some loose attraction). If it FIRMLY sticks to the magnet, it is not sticking because of plating. The US Mint made coins for several other countries. It could be struck on a foreign blank. Pictures would really help.

Sorry no pic, I still havent got a cam. It picks completely off table. If its plated they did a darn good job because its same thickness and details are perfect.

no reason for it to be a planchet error, unless the mint has sheets of steel just sitting around since
1943 & are stacking Zinc sheets with them.
the mint had no reason for steel sheets in 1961

has to be Coated, made for a Magic show , or an attempt at counterfeiting a rarity.
I'd guess one of the 2 Former choices

Not saying your wrong but I had a 56 that was the exact same way, beautiful detail and everything. Brought it to a LCS and it even snapped on the magnet. I didn't think it was normal at all but they all examined it and determined it was chromed or some sort of plating.

Keep in mind the US mint does make coins for other countries. Some of those are steel.

US mint made coins for other countries. It could be a blank for one of them.
