Got this the other day when I was changing in my halves. Probably not worth much, but I thought I'd check with you all.... I'm not "hep" on paper currency!

Any ideas on value? Should I just spend it? The scan shows creases that you really can't see when looking at it with the naked eye. It really looks in better shape than the scan.

it a silver cert $100 bill ---back when the us dollar was based on something other the trust---like silver---the silver standard---money was back by silver and paper money could be traded in for a like amount of silver at the mints---$100 bucks worth of silver ---in 1964 the us went off the silver standard and the value of the dollar has dropped ever since (they stopped making 90% silver coins then too)---sadly you can no longer "cash in" the paper bills for silver---- pre 1933 we were on the even better gold standard for paper money---thats why a buck was "worth" so much in the old days---our money of today gets worth less and less every day---you bill may have some "collector value" as many big bills (100,500 & 1000) were cashed out for silverby silver hoarders before the turn in deadline--so there aren't that many around---odd that you got one from a bank --their suppose to turn them in to be "destroyed" when they get one--- they send the bill in with a form and the govt sends the bank a "new"$100 bill in replacement---guess the teller did not "see" it or just did not want the hassle of filling out the all the govt "red tape" paperwork--lucky you---SEE a 1950 e "key" mint mark(san francisco) going for about 140 or so on e bay----Ivan

Hmmm, this is not a silver certificate it is a Federal Reserve note. All notes are printed in Washington DC or Fort Worth Texas, this one was printed for the Dallas Federal Reserve bank. With the wrinkles I doubt it would be worth much over face value, but it is worth checking out first.

Being it's not Crisp Uncirculated,
Probably not much more then $10.00 over Face
to someone who really wants it.

Uncirculated Are Averaging $125 on EBay in the
Completed Listings.
highest I saw was 130

hey $10 bucks is 10% of its "face" value----$110 sounds better than $100 anyday--I'd hold on to it and check it out at least ----unless you really need the money----Ivan

Listed in my 1999 official blackbook of US currency, a 1950A bill from the fed. reserve of Dallas Texas(K), with the signatures of Priest-Humphrey and Green is $140 VF and $175 UNC.
Also you will notice that on the back, it does not say "In God We Trust". This was added on all currency from 1963 on.
