Those prices have to be compared with some perspective. Consider that the Average Annual Salary was $3,150 and minimum Wage: $0.40 per hour.

Still would have been nice if my father had bought some. Hell I wish he would have held onto some of the cool war surplus he had as toys, especially the black model planes for spotter training, he pointed some out to me in a museum and talked about having dozens of them he played with.
 

Try to get your hands on a copy of an old Bannerman Catalogue of Military Goods. (Any edition is fine.) A number of these have been reprinted in recent years. Not only will you be stunned by the prices, but the catalogs are a goldmine for militaria ID's.
