I just opened my first roll for the day and there is a 1943 Gold Walker. Did they mint gold walkers or is this something someone got plated. I will post pics once I go through my two boxes...

It's a very bad pic, but I wanted to get one on here while I go through the rest of the box.

wow, thats the second gold plated walker posted today. Could that lower the value? I know it will not lower the silver value.

TW656,when you say could it lower the value,do you mean that a common date(43) circulated walking liberty half is worth more than melt value near you?

The dealers near me pay the same for common date WL,Franklin and '64 JFK.Unless the WL or Franklin is a low mintage or very high grade they won't give anymore for them than a '64 JFK.

Is it different where you live ???.

No, you are right, they probably do not pay more for a circulated Walker, than a 64. Lets say that there are two identical MS67 Walkers. One gold plated and one not gold plated. Would they be worth the same, if not which one would be worth more.

Out of 2 MS67's the one not plated would have the higher value.

I would think the plated one would be heavily devalued for being altered.(Like a high grade CLEANED coin).

There are many high grade coins in the marketplace that have been cleaned and can be had at a greatly reduced price from an original coin with mint luster.

That coin must have made it's way into your box by way of a coinstar or other type counting machine. If a teller saw that come into the bank loose they would surely notice it for the bright gold color and then realize the date and take it home, even if they weren't a collector. For only $.50 who wouldn't buy it?

Hey, what a coincidence, I found a golden half today too, but mine was a bicentennial:( Still gave me a bit of a surprize when I busted the roll, and had a gold edge winking at me! I guess someone had an idea to make thie 1976 more collectablle by plating it. anyway, here is a pic.
