It would be used to carry the Host to the home of the dying ... So that he/she may receive the holy Eucharist before passing ...

A Stellar Find Indeed ...

True, it may have been used for the administration of last rights. It also could have been used to carry the sacred host to parishioners unable to attend Mass. I believe it may have been carried by a priest or perhaps by a lay eucharistic minister.

That is a fantastic piece of history. What a great find. The workmanship is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

amazing!! Its a rare piece indeed to find :icon_thumright:

By taking this to a catholic church that would research the initials on the back it could be they could find out the name of the priest that it belonged to and close to the year it was lost. That would be very interesting to know the history of this treasure. If you follow through with this suggestion please let us forum members know if you able to find any further information. A very precious find. GH, Don

I have to agree with Nick, if it was used for the sick, it would be much thicker. More than one person would be called on during sick calls. This beauty looks like a one host container.
This is much nicer than the junkey pill boxes used today.

Very cool relic! I'm voting BANNER as well. Please do not clean it. It will seem 'less historic' without the patina of age... Congrats.
