It is invisible.

Value will depend on condition, but you can get an idea here. If you think it's worth anything, you're better off not cleaning it. But if you want to clean it, search these forums for how to clean coins, and you will find many results.

Hello everyone,
Can anybody tell me more about this Nickel,? It has no mint mark and I'm wondering how to clean it (the stuff on it is hard). Also, wondering what it may be worth. I found it detecting in a park.
Thanks!!
It does have a mint mark....an S. IMO, it's not worth any major effort in cleaning. In it's current condition, it's not worth even $1. Clean it to whatever makes you happy and leave it at that.

Looks like the black stuff could be tar. Try soaking in some WD-40 for a few days and see if that helps take it off.

Acetone works the best for tar, glue, shellac, and other such sticky stuff, and doesn't hurt the coin or it's patina.
