I decided to run out my batteries at this large, cleared corner lot closeby to where live. I have hunted there before and found a silver Washington quarter. Its funny but I think we tend to do the areas of bare ground first. (Sometimes I even discriminate about what kind of ground I should detect. For example, I'll pass by ground that looks "too hard" to dig in. It's silly, because good finds can be anywhere and you can't really tell much by just looking at the top of the ground.) Well knowing that I had only done the "bare spots" made it easier to decide where to swing my coil this time- the areas with growth and leaves which I had avoided up until now. Sure enough after sticking the coil in the grass and leaves and rapidly swinging a few times I got that repeating coin "bing, bing, bing" tone on the ace 250. I cleared away the leaves with my Paraboot (leaves actually make for a good marker for digging) and dug a nice big plug in the rich wet soil (love it.) Flipped it over and saw a whitish disc which I knew was a silver dime, flipped it over in my hand and saw the bundled cord of a Mercury! A 1930 Mercury head. Surprising because most of the coins I find in Texas are from Denver.
The other finds were the metal portion of a pencil eraser and a little aluminum something which I left in the car.

My wish is to find a site with multiple silver coins or, if not, to find a barber-era coin or a fifty cent piece. Actually finding an archaic coin like a U.S. 2-center or 3-center would be real cool. (They should bring back the 3 cent piece!). Or how about a 2.50 gold piece. Now that would be cool. Although just finding wheats usually makes my day!

I get your drift and don't you know on my way home I was thinking, "What if I wash this guy off and he turns out to be a 1916-D" :icon_jokercolor:

Congrats on your '30 Merc!! Sometimes all it takes is to simply swing your coil over the ground. ;D
