1922 no D wheat penny and more !!!!! NEW PIC'S

Well got the detectors out for the first time today :hello2: headed out to an old camp (hunted out) to make a long story short,it was a fantastic day in the mountains of Colorado. After about an hour and a half ,out pops a 1927 quarter , half hour later a Colorado state seal button ;D We decided to hike back to the ridge where the jeep was parked, ate lunch, Steve walks off not 15 feet from the jeep and digs a 1912 D wheat penny. After all the ohhhing & ahhhing over the finds so far,I walk off another 30 feet and dig a 1922 no D wheat penny, my first Key Date :tongue3: Great way to start the 2011 season, got to love those hunted out spots !!!

Re: 1922 no D wheat penny and more !!!!!

One of the top holy grail finds for us lowly Lincoln lovers. Let's see a pic of the reverse. Don't see these that often. Worth a banner consideration definitely..

In 1922 all U.S. Cents were minted at the Denver Mint and bear the "D" mint mark. However, as the dies wore, the mint mark became weaker and weaker until it didn't show on some examples. An uncommon and quite valuable coin in all grades.

Awesome find Charlie! Big congrats!

Not too often that a copper coin so young gets me excited. :headbang: :headbang:

If you have the rare "No-D" variety of the 1922 Lincoln cent, your coin could be worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars -- depending on its condition.
However, there are 3 sets of dies used to stamp these, and only one set of these dies has that big value (die pair #2) -- the rest are only worth about 1/10th as much (or less).
The die pair you want is the one that will show absolutely no trace of the "D" mintmark under the date (even when magnified), and will exhibit a strong strike on the reverse -- no mushiness at all.
Refer to Ken Potter's analysis of these coins on his website :
http://conecaonline.org/content/1922NoD1cDP2Diagnostiocs.htm
There are also tons of these coins out there that are couonterfeit -- where the "D" has been removed. Careful examination with a strong magnifier will reveal these.
If you do have the genuine rare variety, then in well-worn condition, it's worth $350-$500 -- in lightly worn condition it's worth $1,200-$2,500 -- in almost uncirculated condition it's worth almost $5,000 -- and a nice uncirculated one will be worth $6,500 to $22,000 or more.
