My German is a little rusty but it looks like a banknote for 1000 German Marks drawn up on Sept 15, 1922.

Germany went through its worst inflation in 1923. In 1922, the highest denomination was 50,000 Mark. By 1923, the highest denomination was 100,000,000,000,000 Mark. In December 1923 the exchange rate was 4,200,000,000,000 Marks to 1 US dollar.[14] In 1923, the rate of inflation hit 3.25 × 106 percent per month (prices double every two days). Beginning on November 20, 1923, 1,000,000,000,000 old Marks were exchanged for 1 Rentenmark[14] so that 4.2 Rentenmarks were worth 1 US dollar, exactly the same rate the Mark had in 1914.

Ok, what is a German Mark ?

Its the German unit of currency... like the US Dollar, Japanese Yen, Chinese Yuan Renminbi... like Mackaydon said... in 1922 a wheelbarrow full of these might buy you a loaf of bread.

Thanks, I think I'll buy a little picture frame and hang it in my 8 year olds room ...Tell him here is a 1000 bucks in german money, ;D

It -was- the German currency. Since 1999, Germany, as well as most of Europe, uses the Euro.

Nice find. I have several of these things. In fact I have 23 of them that are dated in 1922 as well. They were drawn from Reichs Bank Directorium. They are cool items of history. Mine are 10,000 marks each. All in consecutive serial numbers...But still pretty much fire starters :tongue3: jgas

It is an old German Note. Their money was in marks before, now they are in euro
