Picked this up kind of cheap on ebay totally aware of the damage...lines carved around liberty's face and obverse and reverse rim damage.I am fine with what I paid and the condition(I own two others in xf).....just wondering what some of you would value this particular coin at and another question how much percentage wise does rim damage, holes,or gouges devalue a coin roughly?Obviously many variables can affect this greatly due to the extent but wondering what some of you think or know on these questions. Thanks in advance!

Key dates have their own rules...lots of rim bumps...might fetch g/vg retail value. Always look out for scratches that have been tooled out and bumps that have been filed

The rim bumps can take away a lot of the value but also it appears to have been rather harshly cleaned. 1921 is collectable though so it worth more than melt.

Also,

As a collector of Peace dollars I would say the main detractor are the rim dings. To be honest, the condition is decent in terms of wear (eagle still has feathers etc). The cleaning and markings are not a big deal to me.

Care to say how much you paid, just curious :dontknow:

Thanks for all the info and responses,I paid $39.55,also was looking to get opinions on a Seated dollar that is holed but with great detail as well, picked it up cheap as well and just could not help but buy it....to me its a beautiful coin and though I would rather have it without the hole it does not bother me being the amount of detail it has and knowing people used to wear coins.

Seems like a good deal on the Peace dollar to me, congrats. As for the seated, I dont collect those 8-)

I just bought a 1934 S Peace dollar at a local auction the other day, Id rate it somewhere definitely well above good but also not quite what Id call extra fine, its far from uncirculated condition which is what you really want with the 34 S Peace dollar! $47.50 is what I paid & I feel it's worth $80 minimum on up to $120 or more. That 34 S is such a strange date like $1250+ if it's uncirculated which is way more than the 28 is worth in uncirculated condition tho the 28 is worth more than the 34 S in any other condition.

The same auction had a 1921 Peace dollar graded by NGC as having AU details, improperly cleaned & scratched reverse. It sold for $110 tho graded coins always bring more than ungraded ones do. Same auction sold a 1928 also NGC graded as AU details & harshly cleaned & it still went for $350.
