Ok, I know the obvious of what this is, but where and how was it used? I have looked and found nothing like it on the net. Is there anywhere you could search to find what or who this was registered too?

It reads: Registered

Motor
Vehicle
12562
Arkansas
1919
Motor Vehicle Law

Seems to be made of aluminum, two small holes for mounting, penny for reference. Thanks

Could it be how they once had VIN numbers?

Thanks seger. I'm not that familiar with vehicle in that era. I figure they had VIN number assigned from the factory though. The number 12562 has to be linked to something though.

Thank you MJ. I checked out that site and will shoot an email to them tomorrow. Maybe they have some ideas or some archives for old Arkansas tags.

They were the recognized license tag. I have one just like it for Georgia.

They were used from 1914-1928 in GA

Good link creskol, thanks. I have searched Arkansas' DMV and they don't seem to have any history for their tags. One thing that has kinda got me confused is that in searching I found that Arkansas had a "regular looking" rectangle license plate in 1919 also. I have caught hints that these small round ones may have been used in conjunction with the rectangle ones. These small round ones may have been mounted to the dash?

It also seems like any local antique dealer could tell you... I don't think I've ever been in an antique shop someplace that did'nt have old tags... :icon_scratch:

Good idea MJ. I'll probably take it along with me the next time I go out to the antique stores.

This one didn't get any bids on eBay, but you might contact the seller for more information:

Nice find there PBK! That is the first one I have seen anywhere other than the one I have. I may contact the seller if some of the other leads don't pan out.

I sent an email to the Tin Lizzies site listed above. I'm gonna wait on a reply from one of its members to see what they have ot say. I'll keep everybody updated. I would be really cool to be able and research who this tag belonged too. That information has got to be out there somewhere, just may not be digital yet.
