Hey bro....
Dont ask me to look at it....you know I need glasses.. ;D
Wanna borrow my loop ?

Your loving sister....

It's called a cud. A small area where the die cracked or was worned away. Although not dramactic older coins in nice condition with errors are very collectable due to thier age and rarity. Look over every coin very cafefully and you'll find more errors.

I see it! Neat! I found a 1918 a couple of days ago...I'm gonna have to find it and see if it has one of those.

Nana :)

It's called a cud? Like what a cow chews after eating and regurgitating? Interesting. In the words of Johnny Carson, "I did not know that."

Dang it, now I gotta go look at my wheaties to see if Abe has coughed up his cud.

A cud is part of the die actually breaking away, usually from the edge. This looks more like a die gouge or something similar. Either way, its pretty common. Unusual and worth hanging onto, but common.
