Metal Detecting
There is a local pond that was drained, I saw a guy on youtube who's been detecting there and he's finding some really amazing stuff, like old coins and jewelry! It seems like a fantastic spot so I decided to give it a try today, the spots I went had already been detected and I only found bullets. Hundreds of bullets! I fear maybe I missed out on some amazing finds, but the bullets are neat.

As far as I can tell they are from springfield armory which is nearby and from 1918.

The 30 cal bullets from the WW1 era were head stamped with the year they were made. I have many that have two digit dates on them from the early teens. I detected these at WW1 army training sites out west.

Well not sure about collecting. I left more than I brought home. Most of what I have are just the casings although I have a few live rounds and a few blanks rounds. I also recovered some stripper clips and put the casings in them and gave them to the grandkids to play with so I guess there is some value. I also gave some to two local gun shops for their show cases that display old stuff.

We were detecting for uniform buttons and other military things.

It pays to research headstamps when you find old rounds like that. Great find!

they used to test fire there - im a spfld area native

Looks to be fired, maybe they threw all their duds in a pond lol
