I went out hunting with Smittyman (of TNet fame) on Tuesday. We hit a few spots in a little redneck town, in the next county over. The pickings were slim, but a good time was had by both of us.

I found a 1916 Merc, I looked and looked for the "D" mint mark, but alas, it was not there. I also found a Jolly Time popcorn spinner token, a fake gold ring, a charm from an '85 high school graduation tassle and kid's ring. When I pulled the fake ring out of the ground, it was gold, so I looked for a makers mark, and sure enough it said "18K" inside... I almost got excited, then I noticed that it also had "HGE" inside.... Heavy Gold Electroplate... dang!

Thanks for looking and good luck on your hunts!

Nice group of finds my friend. glhh

Really cool. I haven't even found a 1916 Mercury. I've found loads of 42s, 17s and 20s for some reason.

I just looked it up and the Jolly Time Popcorn is a toy from the 40s or 50s. Neat piece.

Nice finds and I love Mercury dimes.

I somehow missed your post yesterday. Congrats on the 1916 merc. Hate that it didn't have the mint mark. Maybe the next one will though.

I am sure the dime gave you some entertainment for a bit anyway. Pretty cool finds Tom.

Nice finds tom!, I like that token and of course the merc, would've been sweet for the 1916d huh!!!

Way to go bud, good title, I had my fingers crossed when I opened up the thread. I have only got as close as 1917 three times, maybe some day. I love that token, personally I like them even better than the Merc. (although I do love those winged ladies) Those advertising tokens are pretty cool, yours is in great shape, (I'm jelly)
You never said what Smittyman got? I'll have to look and see if he posted?

Hey neighbor!! A 1916 Merc is a good find, D or no D. I like to find the trinket stuff, breaks up the clad boredom. Tony

Thanks Brad.

Smittyman does not post very often... must be something to do with them there new fangled dadburn computer contraptions. He got a '64 Washington... He got it under the clothes line. I saw the clothes line, and was drifting to the backyard to hunt it, but the rascal swooped in and snatched it right out from under me. He moves in quickly on potential silver areas... and buffets!

Hope all is well. GL&HH.

Don't ever be scared to move in right behind him. Or maybe start a new fad called "metal detecting hockey" where as you hip check him to the other side of the yard, lol.
Maybe to promote good relations (and he might be packing heat) that second suggestion might be a bad idea, haaaaa lol. Imagine him missing a target and you finding it from behind him?

Either way, jk, GL & HH to both of you guys.

A 16' is a great find. I have seen several pulled but the only D came from a bank in Concord that gave it to a friend. He sold it and came out like a bandit. I have hunted many time behind someone and picked up what the miss. Really come out good when I hunt behind a Deus. lol

Great stuff CT! How many times did you look at that merc anyway? I know I've had a couple coins that I just kept trying to will a mark to be there. I'm sure this was similar. You could've "clothes lined" Smittyman and snagged his booty lol. Hmmmm that sounded kinda weird but I can't seem to bring myself to change it :-)

Thanks Abe.

As soon as I saw the 1916, I flipped it over and looked for the mint mark. When I did not see it, I asked Smittyman to check, he said "no mint mark"... so I checked a couple of more times... however.. there was STILL no mint mark. I don't have great expectations of finding anything really good... so just finding a Merc makes it good day for me.

Good luck up there in the frozen north!

Nice stuff tom. Still looking for that d myself

Always nice to see some silver at the end of the day....
