at this point, it's so worn down that I don't think it really matters. But I could be wrong. I'm not a huge coin collector. My guess would be "S".

The "S" has a figure-8 style to its shape for the Mercury Dimes.

The "D" does not have the bulge on the top right side, as yours appears to slope inward.

I'm calling yours an "S".
