My 14-year-old son and I hit a local garage sale and he bought about 50 assorted wheat pennies for $10. After sifting through them for a few minutes in the kitchen he came rushing outside to tell me that he thought he had a 1914D...I said I doubt it (they are sometimes faked), but sure enough, although it is a little rough, the photos below don't lie...looks genuine to me. There were only 1,193,000 made and in good condition they are worth $215! Happy hunting everyone.

I hope I'm wrong but to me it looks like a 1944-d cent. -Garbageman

Nah. I see what your looking at, and the first 4 would be touching the 9. It's a 14-D.
Nice find!!

Very cool! I hope it's authentic. I searched on some forums and a couple of things to look for are:

If you see VDB on the shoulder, it's not authentic.

Check the size of the second 1. it should be smaller than the 4.

If authentic, you might be able to get $100 or so on eBay for it - which isn't a bad return at all!

Still A nice coin. Would make a good filler for that impossible spot in the coin book.. There is no way its a 44 the 4 would have to touch the 9 its way to close its definitly a 14

Agreed on a 14 by the pic :o
Corrosion spot.
I picked up 16 dollars of rolled wheat, pulled half a roll of minor errors,
but no key coins. don't miss the errors
Congrats
