So my boy comes home from work tonight and says look what I found in change. (He works at a gas station part time while going to school) my jaw about hit the floor... He finds about a dozen wheats every week and a couple silvers a month.

WOW! Now that's a great score. In good shape too. Congrats to your son.

Sweet find.
I LOVE it when some cashier gives me treasure.

Congrats to your son. He's sure off to a great start.

Holly crap !! Not dug condition too, holly crap !! :notworthy:

I'd get it graded !! Not only that I'd nominate for banner, but I guess your homeboy has to post it !! :dontknow:

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

That's impressive! He has a good eye, maybe he's been taught well? Tops the 1909 vdb I got back in my change 20 years ago! Tell him congrats.

The spacing between the 9 and the second 1 does look funky - you should have it authenticated (should have no VDB on the shoulder)

Hi; Awesome Find there. PEACE:RONB

Almost looks like a 44d cut down.

I thought that myself. if you do an image search of 14-D's, the date on all of them appears more uniform. Hope it's real though!

Yeah I thought about it being a fake for a minute too but who would put it back into circulation? It's got some green gunk on the side of the D. I just shot a quick pic before we left for a Christmas party, looks good under a loop but I'm no coin expert.

RobRieman , Can you get a few more good close ups of the obverse - Perhaps in different light the spacing will appear normal ?

(as far as who would put it back into circulation- The unknowing and the uncaring that's who ! "zombies"
who break into peoples homes to quick sell their belongings for drugs/weapons etc. )

I will take some through the loop if I can get it to show up. I'm at a party tonight so I will try it when I can get a chance. I would love to know if it's real. If it's fake it only cost him a penny. :) I did take the pic at a funky angle because the shadow of the phone kept getting in the way.

Interesting I'm reading this. Was at my coin guys shop today and he likes testing me out/teaching me things. Asked me to grade a 14d I looked at it, told him that date looks funny, but I gave it a ef-40 grade..then he threw it at the wall! Lol I got schooled on how to tell a altered 14d. Here's to hoping yours is legit. I'd agree with the others that its a altered 44d.

Mike

altered coin, unfortunately. still a fun find though.

Definitely a shaved 44-D. The gap between the 9 and 1 is the giveaway. It would have been a heart stopper if I found it.
