My wife and I are on a road trip through Colorado and Nebraska (we live in Wyoming) looking for some new places to detect. We did pretty good today with $13 in clad and a 44 cent. I found a sterling pendant and we were pretty happy with our finds. Then she gets a nickel tone and this shows up in the last park we were doing today! The reverse is very crusted so I can't see the mint mark. Sure hope it's an S. Guess we'll find out when we get home and try to clean it up a bit..carefully!

That's a great addition to any collection. Ive been detecting for years and just recently found a few of these the weird part is that I have detected all over this park and other parks I finally detected the paths in and out and found these and many others just on the paths. Great job nice coin!!!!!!

I found a 1912 V nickel earlier this year myself. Just a Philadelphia, but I was still pretty elated. Yours looks to be quite the nice find! Congrats!

Thanks for the comments! Keeping fingers crossed for that S [emoji51]

Congratz! I haven't found one yet that is nickel colored. Very nice.

I've only found two V nickels to date, and neither was in this good of shape. I hope you can rescue reverse. Great find!

Anyone know a safe way to get some of the crud off the back of this nickel?

Had my coin expert friend look at it and he believes it's a D. Still a good find. I'm soaking it in soapy water for a day or so

Twig57 Hello ! I have been detecting about 8 years and not dug up a V nickel yet. I collect them and have to buy them :( Did it ring up as an ordinary nickel, say 17 or 18 on a DFX, and how deep was it ? Thanks and nice find !

Ive read here on this form that using a tooth pic helps in cleaning a coin so you don't scratch it

Try plain old ketchup. Smear it on liberally and let it sit overnight. I tried it with a crusty buffalo I dug up and it took off a lot.
