I've been doing some remodeling in an old historical building on Main Street in my hometown. I had to rip up an old pine floor down to the full size joists. The building core is a two-story rectangular timber post frame with pegged hewn beams. But this small upper floor addition gives me Interwar or Depression-era vibes. The bays had a deep layer of crumbling matter piled in them and I couldn't spend time going through the mess because I'm on the clock trying to move on the job. Today I spotted these two coins before insulating. Too bad the 1909 isn't in better shape, but that funky metal composition didn't hold up well.

I probably should have kept the three shop vac bags of crap and sifted through them later. But I always worry about mouse droppings and hantavirus. I know of two craftsman in my area who have perished from this pathogen in recent years.

thanks for the post and the info, great saves, interesting bit on the pathogen

If you are in that situation again, you can soak down the contents of the shop vac with water before searching for any items you may have vacuumed up. Hantavirus is inhaled as dust particulate, wetting the debris first eliminates the airborne particles containing the virus.

What a fun way to find old coins! Got a better pic of the S on the penny? How about the back? Is it a VDB?

That lincoln isn't in terrible shape. I've certainly seen worse. Even without the VDB, an '09-S is still a desirable coin to complete a collection. The '09-S had less that 2 million minted. Oh, and that Merc is pretty nice too!

NIce going :) You did well

Nice finds. Good job getting them. Congratulations and thanks for posting.
