I found this brass pendant about 800 miles from Tacoma in a field where a school gymnasium was once located. There's no date on the pendant, but the stadium depicted on it was built in 1909 and the name of the school "Tacoma HS" was changed four years later. So it seems reasonable to date the pendant between 1909 and 1913.
No idea what "174" refers to, but the Elk's lodge chapter 174 is in Tacoma so I'm wondering if they helped build the stadium in 1909.
The back side reads:
MT. TACOMA ALTITUDE 14,529 FT.
TACOMA HIGH SCHOOL SECOND FINEST IN THE U.S.
HIGH SCHOOL STADIUM SEATING CAPACITY 40,000
I love that the school claims to be "2nd Finest" . . . not sure what the marketing strategy is there :-)
Thanks for looking and good luck out there!
