Wow! Awesome ID today. About a year ago my Aunt Louise gave me 2 skeleton keys and an old bullet in its shell after I went detecting at her old home. At the site I found a fired .28 pistol ball shot. The site is very close to a field where a civil war battle took place. Anyhow, after further research, I learned the bullet was from the Frankford Arsenal, built in 1816. I discovered that the markings on the shell were marked "F A 7 08". F A stands for Frankford Arsenal but it's the numbers that really threw me for a loop. They are numerical dates. The seven represents the month in which the bullet was made - in this case July. The 08 means 1908!!! I know that isn't insanely old or anything like the civil war bullets people dig up, but it was a big, pleasant surprise to me. Thanks for the read!
