Hi Shaun,

I know, its a head scratcher !!!! ;D

The stamp itself looks old, giving me the impression that while the coin was minted in 1907, the stamp followed soon afterwards, so its not a recent
stamp, anyone with some knowledge on this kind of coins? All help needed!

Hi Crusader,

Someone made a type of Check (tool check maybe)

What do you mean by this? I dont understand fully? Please give me more details?

regards,

Devan

If someone (is this case No.26) took a tool out from the factory. They would put his check on a hook in the place of the tool until it was returned.

Oh, OK, now it makes sense, thank you. I was under the impression, because it was found in South Africa, that it might have been used
as a half crown ( 2/6 ) as at that time ( if I am correct ) There was a shortage of coins that time and people used to make use of funny items / tokens
to trade.

But from what you told me, that might just be the answer! ;D Thanks again for all of your comments and fast responses, this is by far the best coin
forum I have used in a long time!

Are there any South Africans on this forum, if so please PM me, so we can make contact !

Are there any coal mines in your area ?, looks like a pit check. These checks were left on the surface by the miners before going underground. That way it was known how many were under ground at any given time.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the info, no there are no mines in my area, but then again the coin could have travelled some distance before landing in my hands ! ;D
