Work is so hectic everyday with traveling the province. Luckily I can take the detector along with me from time to time. I managed some cool finds like a “godless” 1911 Canadian dime, a decorative dog face buckle, sterling silver scissors, a Victorian British military button, 1883 large cent and some Indian heads and large cents. Best of all was a unique September 16, 1906 BPOE elks Hoboken lodge #74 badge pin. I didn’t know much about the elks but after lots of research there’s a long history to them and it had plenty of famous members. Wonder how it found its way up here in Nova Scotia. Thanks for looking! 😁👍

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

WAY cool elks pin! This was around the time Teddy Roosevelt intervened to get them to stop making watch fobs out of elks’ teeth for the fraternity!

Really cool stuff!
Cool to know. Seems this particular lodge just finished their new huge upgraded lodge house that same year 1906 as the pin. Pretty cool that it dates the same as that. Probably the first one out for it. 😁
Fantastic finds - congrats !
Hoboken NJ - home of the famous - Hoboken Clam Broth House - one of Frank Sinatra's old hang outs.
that’s cool to know 😁👍

Cool find on the BPOE badge, and you have a maker mark for Dieges & Clust of New York. I love the history of these kinds of things. It seems that Lodges produced these commemorative badges for their annual outings. The 1909 badge for Hoboken Lodge 74 says it was their 9th outing, so presumably September 16, 1906 was the sixth outing. Couldn’t find any record of where they went.

Note the clock set at 11 o’clock, which is the “golden hour of recollection” for Elks, wherever they may be. At 11pm it’s customary at any gathering that Elks stand and remove their hats for the “11 o’clock toast” to “absent members”.

Wow great info. Not sure if you knew but the maker company’s owner was also an elk member himself and also a Freemason. 😁
