Coolest thing ever yesterday. I was out detecting a VERY thouroughly searched over park in Southern MN here, and as I was about to leave, I figured I'd dig one last thing. I swept over an area between the walking path and woods, found a wheatie about 3 inches down. Good news. Talked myself into digging ONE more, and it came up on my AT-Pro as a Nickel 2 inches down. I said what the heck, its probably some pull-tab. Pulled out my Pro Pointer, touched it to the dirt, and it went off. On the top of the dirt, face down was this 1903 V-Nickel. Within 2 feet of people for the last 110 years on the surface, just unreal. Went on later in the day to find the most immaculate Mercury dime I've ever seen.

Now that seems to me to be a virgin spot. I am sure there are more oldies waiting there for you.

The crazy thing is its in a VERY picked over park. I must've found the one area of that park that hasn't been completely scoured over or something

I have seen similar finds. I have gotten mercs less than an inch in a park before. One was laying on a tree root. That root must have been pushing the coin to the surface for 40+ years. Another one was in an area that the city always did flower gardens and it must have been on the edge of an old flower bed. It happens.

One park had huge pine trees that they finally trimmed the bottom branches. It was like virgin soil. So many turn of the century coins that you would have been amazed. Some right on the surface.

If its been detected allot its possible someone found it detecting and relost it. I've found coins a couple times guys I detect with left laying on the ground.

Very Nice! Hard to come by.

Where in S. Minnesota are ya at? I'm in Farmington & going to try to get out Tues.

i had the same luck here in Lakeside. ca a few weeks ago. i went to a park and after an hour or so picked up a trashy signal and just an inch or so deep in loose leaves and soil was a 1884 silver morgan dollar

I am green with envy. All i have found so far is what everyone calls clad and a few trinkets!

Nice pulls!

LOL! First off, very awesome, grats! Secondly, I laughing because you said you talked yourself into keep digging. Lol. We do that all the time!!!

Very awesome find I can't believe it was on the surface for 101 years with out sinking into the ground that's crazy but what a awesome find.

If a silver dollar is giving you a trashy signal, you are doing it wrong.

It could have been next to a big piece of trash causing a bad signal.....

....or resting a few inches atop a buried beer can.

ds, the Merc is in great condition and the V-nickel is an interesting/curious find and has seen a lot of years from its mint date. What is the condition of the nickel, can not see it clearly in the photo?.................63bkpkr

Funny he didn't mention trash nearby or something in the hole with it.
Trash near it is more than likely how it survived so long without being detected.
