I've had a bit of luck finding silver things and/or silver scrap. One of them being a really ornate butter knife. Last night I came home and my dad had used the metal detector for me to try to find me something while I was out and he found a whopper. This Morgan dollar has a nice heavy coat of patina and one small surface scratch but that could even be in the patina and not the metal. Otherwise this coin is in perfect condition and probably the favorite of all my coins now. This silver dollar although not uncommon is my first dollar coin and therefore uncommon to me. Happy hunting to all I'm trying to hide this smile but I can't I'm still smirking.

Nothing in this hobby felt better than when I dug mine! Congrats on your first Cartwheel!

Beautiful silver dollar, congrats to your Dad! I'd also love to see pictures of your ornate butter knife. I've been detecting over 2 years and the only silver coin I've found so far is a 1923 Peace silver dollar -- I'm possibly even older than your dad so maybe we old ones get straight to the big stuff, lol. Mine was a surface find in a field my son and I had detected often without seeing that big coin. Andi
