I thought I'd share something I dug tonight. This is a M.N.G. ( Michigan national Guard ) souvenir medal/token/fob from the 1901 encampment held at Camp Bliss in Manistee from Aug 4-14 of that year. It's an interesting design with an image of a tent with flag on the back side. I wish it was in better condition. It is bent, but should be easy to flatten. I just scrubbed it with a nylon brush and soap and water. If anyone has a good method of cleaning the crud off of aluminum I'd appreciate info.

Well done nice piece of Michigan History .

My experience with aluminum tokens has been that if you clean the surface corrosion off, what is underneath will be corroded pitting. I always just wash them off and leave them alone after that. Cool token by the way.

Interesting finds .
Great history .

Nice finds One_more_hole. I did a quick search and found reference to the Encampment in the Times Herald (Port Huron, Michigan) on August 3rd, 1901 - "...MICHICAN NATIONAL GUARD - Company M. Will Leave for Manistee on Monday Morning - Company M., Michigan National Guard, will leave Port Huron at 6:50 o'clock Monday morning...more..."

Very nice token. With the aluminum tokens, I just wash mine off and display them as is.

nice token i love old tokens

Certainly a very neat old medal concerning an encampament there in Michigan.

Congratualtions! :occasion14:
