I picked up this ring in a jar at the local thrift today. It’s marked 750 and has 32 small diamonds around it. But the on my cheap tester, the round glass in the middle tests as diamond too. My tester cannot test for moissonite(?), but is reliable most of the time. Have you guys ever seen a stone like this?

Hard to say, but it all looks a little suspicious to me, meaning the soldered joints look as if they are plated over the soldering.

Take it to a jeweler, and let us know what they say! Maybe it's raw/unfaceted diamond if it's genuine.

It looks like a polki diamond. Probably taken from a piece of traditional Indian jewelry. I’ll find a post on them.

Here is an example of a polki in a ring and then some loose ones: ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1527423354.354474.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1527423371.377333.webp

I have several polki bridal pieces from the turn of the century. They were popular with Westerners then and are again nowadays because of the popularity of Bollywood movies.

The Indians prized size over other diamond features, so they tend to be thin (not a lot depth) and rough cut.

I am suspect of any laser etched markings. Have you acid tested it?

Thanks! I thought it was a big piece of glass until I tested it. I learn something new all of the time from you guys!

Got an offer for $700. I’ll probably take it.

FABULOUS find. I nominated this baby for Banner.

Nice gold, but the diamonds need to be tested by a good diamond tester or a jeweler. there is a big difference in value between moissanite and real diamonds, you need a diamond tester that can tell the difference between diamonds and moissanite to know if they are real.[h=2][/h]

I took it to a major local jeweler and they had not heard of polki diamonds. The diamond testing machine was giving them issues but they would get positive readings for diamonds three times in a row and then it tested as other. Then diamonds. All of the smaller diamonds were real and no issues. I sold it for $600 to a buddy who was willing to gamble.

Thank for the banner reference, but while this is nice...the Omega Speedmaster for $20 is what I consider one of my top two finds. The other was an $8K diamond bracelet I sold for $4K last year.
