1897 IHP, 1917-S Merc, 3 Wheats and Some Cool Relics "Carved Lead Bird Head"

I went back to the little house that was built in the 1820's to finish my grid. Spent 5 hours there today. I dug almost every beep. The 2 whispers turned out to be the IHP and Merc :headbang:. Boy that Boost process comes in handy to better ID those whispers. Sure wish some of that rain would have fallen the past couple days. I am going to hit this place 1 more time after a drenching rain to see if I missed much.

1897 IHP, 1917-S Merc & 3 wheats 1920 D or S, A toasted 1920 which was under a 3" diameter root, and a 1934. I dug the cool carved lead bird head, Thought it was just another hunk of lead until I cleaned it. Another neat relic is the OUTDOOR GIRL Olive Oil Dry Rouge compact and the item that looks like a pocket watch frame. I believe it to be a picture holder which is missing both lids. The stuff on the right hand side of the pic are all the pieces I found to a harmonica in one plug.

All of today's finds.

Just an FYI, if you click on a pic, wait for it to come up, then click on it again, you will see it bigger and then click on it one more time it will be huge so you can see more detail.

As always, hope ya'll got out and swung :metaldetector: the coil today.

Great finds. Wicked looking birds head.

You never cease to amaze. I absolutely love the carved lead. Nice job.

Loco, THAT was a great day! The bird head effigy is stellar, wonder what it was used for other than art? Sub 8-)

The bird head is hollow, on the top near the rear there appears to be part of a nail. Wish I knew what it was used for.

Confucius also say " man who dig up bird head is Loco "

Congratulations on the very productive hunt! That lead bird is a cool find.

Nice old green coppers, old silver and the carved lead is VERY nice...looks like an early eagle's head.

awesome finds, I think the lead eagle head is my favorite!

The carved eagle is a very cool find! I'd love to get an ID on that thing with the two rings on either side of the disc (bottom right in your pic). I found one this summer where the rings were at 90 degrees of rotation to each other....same setup one on each side of the disc. Also saw another post several weeks back with one. Anyone know what they are?

Those finds your getting tell me something great is waiting to be found for sure. Love those green indians as well!!! :icon_thumleft:

The carved eagle looks like the topper for an old flag. Cool finds LOCO...

That kind of hunt would make my month. Bird's head is wicked cool.

Very cool piece of carved lead, liking the Eagle! Could be a final of some sorts, and the beak being made into a closed loop makes one wonder if something or the piece being attached.
