Went out before the sunrise on Saturday to hit a town near by with a good friend. We went to hit the old courthouse and it was a bust :( . It was built in the 1860's but must have been pounded over the years plus a TON on iron. Well we saw another community building that was old.. I looked it up on my phone and turns out it was 1800's also and sure enough city owned. So off we went detecting. after 4 mems I hit a solid 12-43 on the CTX and it turned out to be a big coin, dirty and heavy. It had a hint of silver so to the van I went to wash it off. HOLLY COW!!! A 1893 Columbian Half!!!!:woohoo::woot: I seriously thought about stopping and going home cause nothing could top it for the day. I decided to stay and see what other goodies I could find. I hit a wheat then a Rosie 1946D:D 2 silvers Awesome!! The Rosie had a buddy a 1944 wheat. Later I hit 2 more wheats 1 was 1920 the other a 1911. Well a few buckles and lipstick tube later it was time to head home and do some things. This makes #23 & #24 Silvers for the year. :D:D

I forgot to take a pic of the 44 wheat before I tossed it in my wheat jar.

I see a lot of people post a statement like this after making an awesome find. I guess I'm just the opposite because when I make a great find, I don't want to leave. I get that feeling that just has to be more there and I'll keep at it until I'm exhausted. That Columbian half is outstanding! probably the bust dug example I've ever seen posted. Huge congrats to you! That thing rocks! :headbang:

Congrats to you on that awesome find! Not only you get to see it in person, but you now own it baby!!! :) Great find man....:icon_thumright:

Thanks everyone. That coin is the star of my dug collection. A close 2nd to one of my very rare German coins I have also.

Great finds,that half is awesome!

Very cool! Forgive me if you have already researched this but the 1893 worlds columbian exposition was another name for the words fair that was held in Chicago. This particular worlds fair was to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus coming to America. I only know this because I found this columbian exposition souvenir a couple weeks ago. I thought you would like to see it. Looks like a very similar bust of Christopher Columbus. Wish mine was silver like yours!

Cool silvers esp, the Cloumbian Exposition . Its rare to find a commemorative coin espacally one from 1893 ; being so old , one would think they would be worth more $ than they are , but if your like me its worth much more Sentimentaly caouse you dug it & know exactally where it was dug . Nice old cents as well they cleaned up well ,I know very well how this N.Ga soil/clay eats cents like a Bulldawg eats Yellow Jackets. a little regional humor ,hope your not a Tech fan, well their in my top 5 college fb teams . Good luck out there. Davers

When your detector gets a silver signal its always silver right? That's nice but I hear slag is going for a lot now. Just kidding - I had to say something but couldn't bring myself to post on that ridiculous thread. That's a sweet find! Congrats & HH!
